Have got is a common way to express possession, relationships, and characteristics in English, especially in informal speech. It means the same as have when talking about owning things, family members, or how someone looks. For example, you can say I have a car или I’ve got a car. The forms are quite simple: I’ve got, you’ve got, he’s got, she’s got, it’s got, we’ve got, they’ve got. For negative sentences, we use haven’t got или hasn’t got, например I haven’t got a pen. To ask a question, we put have или has at the beginning: Have you got a pet? This structure is very useful for A2 learners to sound more natural.

Часто задаваемые вопросы

What is the difference between have и have got?

When talking about possession, relationships, or characteristics, have и have got mean the same thing. For example, I have a car и I’ve got a car are both correct. Have got is more common in informal, spoken English, while have is used in both formal and informal contexts.

Is have got used in American English?

Да, have got is used in American English, but it is often shortened to got in very informal speech, like I got a new phone (meaning I’ve got a new phone). However, for A2 learners, it’s best to learn the full have got form first, as it is standard in British English and understood everywhere.
